The Mental Health (MH) Domiciliary (DOM) Registered Nurse (RN):

Program Nurse promotes personal growth and development of psychiatric MH nursing practice.

The nurse gains awareness of the principles and goals of the Veterans in DOM treatment by understanding practices related to patient centered care, recovery-oriented principles, and self-awareness related to caring for patients living with MH conditions.

The RN adheres to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice; demonstrates leadership when providing nursing care; and serves as a role model.

The RN will perform nursing care functions, triage, and interdisciplinary collaboration within the mental health service line's inpatient DOM Programs.

This RN duties will include but not limited to:

patient triage, medication administration, accu checks, participates in goal setting and program planning interventions, monitors patients' compliance with treatment plans, coordinates and makes travel arrangements for scheduled, appropriate appointments to Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and other community providers as ordered, and participates in multidiscipline treatment teams.

The RN performs multifaceted assessments, evaluating and modifying nursing care, patient education, patient orientation groups, suicide assessment, and offering complex therapeutic nursing care.

In addition, they will participate in group work and provide input to the health care system. In addition, the RN completes other duties as assigned within the programs.

The RN performs and tracks all clinical reminder activities that include depression screenings, pain screenings, suicidal ideation screenings, alcohol, and drug use screenings, TBI screenings, HIV screenings, hepatitis screenings, and other specific program related screenings.

The RN performs monthly medication reconciliation rounds with patients in their programs to assess safe medication handling, compliance, and patient education.

The RN completes admission data bases for Veterans admitted to DOM Programs within a 24 hour period.
The RN completes discharge documentation ensuring suicide risk screening has been completed within a 24-hour period. The RN reviews and communicates with provider for any medications to include Narcan for any pass request.
