Job Summary
Primarily cleans, sorts, folds, inventories, and repairs linens and laundry items. All University Housing Staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collects, unloads, and sorts soiled laundry according to the kind, color, dirt, fabric content to be laundered or cleaning technique. Applies bleach, stain or spot removal as necessary.
  • Operates washing machines including measuring and adding washing compounds.
  • Operates dryers by setting time and temperature. Cleans lint traps and filters.
  • Manually or automatically folds and stacks linen, sheets, blankets, towels, aprons etc.
  • Recognizes and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate persons as necessary.
  • Inspects laundry for defects and quality, determining usable and non-usable items as well as items to be reprocessed.
  • Mends by hand stitching, attaching patches or marking linen as necessary.
  • Keeps a record of linen on hand and notifies administrator when there is a need to order.
  • Responsible for maintaining and cleaning the area(s) including washing and disinfecting laundry bins/carts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent.
    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Laundry Worker position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 6/11/24.This is a bargained position and as such, the salary is driven by the collective bargaining agreement. The entry-level salary for a Laundry Worker is $18.40/hr.
