The Endoscopy/Specialty RN is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses or health/nursing assistants as appropriate to the procedural setting.

Incumbent provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.

Incumbent primarily delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic outpatient endoscopy procedures.

Incumbent assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes.

Incumbent partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care.

Incumbent has fundamental specialty care experience with the situations in which they are ultimately expected to perform, integrating theoretical concepts, basic critical thinking skills, and technically skilled practice.

Incumbent may function in several roles including but not limited to, pre-procedure instructions/assessments, starting/maintaining intravenous fluids including venipuncture, post procedural recovery, assisting physicians during procedures, administering moderate sedation, and medical/surgical specialty clinic-based care.

Incumbent is responsible for maintaining up to date all mandatory training, including yearly moderate sedation review and competency testing, and attending in-services as well as maintaining current ALS and BLS certification.

Incumbent will maintain proficiency on the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of endoscopy specific equipment.
Incumbent will recognize changes in patient care situations and initiates appropriate emergency response.
Adapts to changes in the daily schedule.
May be assigned call in which the Endoscopy RN will follow all facility policies regarding response time.
