Navy healthcare offers the ability to focus on the finer points of medicine without the financial and business complications of private practice.

Serving part-time as a Reservist, your duties will be conducted during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Physicians in the Reserve typically drill at a location close to their homes. This gives the flexibility to expand your medical experiences in the Navy without compromising your civilian practice at home.

Categorically matched residents practicing in the U.S. may also apply and be eligible for other incentives.


To qualify, you must be a U.S citizen, currently practicing medicine, and between the ages of 21 and 64; you must pass the Navy's physical, legal, and security screenings; and you must meet credential requirements.


Incentives include:

  • Qualification for a bonus of up to $25,000 (included in estimated compensation) or $40,000 per year student loan repayment (with a cap of $250,000)
  • Three-year involuntary deployment deferment
  • Access to commissary, exchange, and base facilities
