Environmental Protection Specialist

Conducts research and gathers and maintains environmental data for mitigation of surface and subsurface impacts;.

Coordinates and participates in inspections; inspects construction sites for surrounding ecosystem and habitat impact; and develops, recommends and implements plans to accomplish program surface protection goals.

Serves as an environmental advisor and evaluator to the Field or District Office interdisciplinary staff on programmatic, technical and regulatory actions when dealing with issues concerning hazardous waste cleanup and/or environmental protection.

Arranges and participates in the inspection of proposed and abandoned oil and gas drill sites and abandoned mine sites to determine the potential environmental impacts.

Participates in inventory collection and monitoring activities that support land use plans; provides technical advice and assistance to managers; and conducts studies and surveys to identify problems.

Coordinates and consults with local Tribal Councils, State or Federal Agencies, and special interest groups; and meets with operators to discuss mitigation measures.

Makes recommendations on implementation of mitigation measures to reduce the impacts on the environment.
