Mackintosh Academy, an International Baccalaureate World School for gifted and creative students in Littleton, CO, is looking for a flexible part-time (0.5 FTE) Learning Specialist for our Lower School (pre-K to fifth grade) students for the school year.

Mackintosh Academy was founded in 1977 as Colorado's first school for gifted students and serves 130 students in pre-K through eighth grade. Mackintosh Academy's mission is to nurture the keen minds and compassionate hearts of the gifted child in a responsive and caring community of learners. Our students mature into confident, healthy human beings inspired to contribute to a world that needs them.

We are one of the Denver area's few authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) independent schools to offer both a Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). Requested Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Gifted Education, or a related field.
  • State certification in Special Education preferred.
  • Experience working with gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) students.
  • Strong knowledge of educational assessments, interventions, and accommodations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and challenging learning environment for gifted and 2e children. Responsibilities include:
    • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to assess students' unique learning needs and develop classroom accommodation plans.
    • Support staff in the development of differentiated instructional strategies.
    • Provide ongoing professional development for teachers to enhance their understanding of gifted and 2e education, including effective strategies and resources to support these students in the classroom.
    • Foster strong communication and collaboration among educators, administrators, and parents to create a supportive learning community.
    • Utilize appropriate assessment/screener tools to identify potential learning disabilities, monitor student progress, and provide professional referrals where necessary.
    • Push in or pull out as needed for individual or small group support on a short-term basis, as determined in consultation with classroom teachers.
    • Engage parents in the educational process, providing guidance and resources to support the learning and development of their children.
    • Establish connections with external agencies and professionals to provide additional resources and support for students and families.
    • Work collaboratively with area school professionals for children who may need to transfer to the public school system.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records ensuring compliance with ethical and legal standards.
