Project Overview:

Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 project at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This project is the design and construction of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) for the Space Launch System (SLS).

Job Summary:

In this role, you will integrate safety and health requirements into complex project planning, design, and operations to reduce the potential for adverse impacts. You will perform risk assessments, provide input on bid decisions, lead meetings and communications, and track and monitor performance trends. Your recommendations will contribute to enhanced quality of safety procedures and work processes. #LI-EH1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists execution of the safety component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
  • Helps prepare and implement Safety and Health Management Plans, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
  • Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups to assure that safety and health requirements are integrated within project planning and execution.
  • Interprets safety and health requirements and provides comprehensive assistance on plan preparation, risk assessment, and ESH program execution.
  • Research moderately complex issues and regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
  • Provides support and guidance for safety studies, risk assessments, and program reviews and audits.
  • Participates in emergency response and incident investigation and resolution.
  • Interfaces and communicates with stakeholders and helps resolve their concerns.
  • Participates in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Conducts ESH inspections and monitoring to identify hazards and risks, evaluate controls and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to occupational safety or health and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in environmental/safety/health assessments/inspections during construction to identify safe work performance as well as hazard evaluation and implementation of effective control measures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Work with other project team members (e.g., engineering, construction, commissioning and startup, subcontracts, procurement, project controls, document control, craft professionals) to assist them in addressing safety and health requirements in their work products and activities.
  • Ability to assist with ES&H training (I.e., site orientation training, weekly safety meetings, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in performing Environmental, Safety and Health oversight for direct hire craft and/ or subcontractor personnel.
  • Understanding of construction planning and execution.
  • Capable of developing ES&H related toolbox talks and presenting to project employees.
  • Basic understanding of Industrial Hygiene Plans, assessments, use of basic monitoring equipment, and control strategies.
  • Knowledge of environmental, safety, and health regulations that are applicable to construction activities.
  • Knowledge of regulatory recordkeeping requirements (used by regulatory agencies as exemplified by OSHA, HSE, and EPA).
  • Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work night shift schedule and support overtime work activities.
  • Must be capable of performing field assessments at heights.
