Position Summary

The Foundations and Social Advocacy (FSA) Department in the School of Education at SUNY Cortland is accepting applications for a 10-month full-time Lecturer I position.

This position will include a joint appointment in the Childhood/Early Childhood Education (CECE) Department and will involve the coordination of the student teaching process, direct supervision of student teachers for both departments, and/or teaching courses.

The successful candidate will also serve as a liaison between the FSA and CECE teacher preparation programs and the local schools.

They will visit local schools frequently to build partnerships, create placements for teacher candidates, supervise student teachers and teach courses as needed.

In addition, this position supports the work of both FSA and CECE student teaching supervisors working in the field so that they can effectively monitor and assist student teachers.

Major Responsibilities

Coordinate the student teaching process for both the Foundations and Social Advocacy Department (FSA) and the Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department (CECE).

Assist in making and coordinating the school placements for FSA and CECE student teachers in conjunction with the Field Experience and School Partnerships (FESP) Office.

Support the FSA and CECE Department Chairs in the hiring and onboarding of student teaching supervisors.
In conjunction with FSA and CECE Department Chairs, supervise the work of student teaching supervisors.
Oversee the student teaching application process and determine student teaching eligibility for both FSA and CECE applicants.

Provide a start of semester orientation for all FSA and CECE student teaching supervisors and meet virtually with all supervisors at the end of each semester to gather feedback.

Work with teacher candidates who need support within their student teaching experience, including working with faculty and host teachers if a remediation process is necessary.

Collaborate with FSA and CECE faculty to create and disseminate a student teaching syllabus, which will include all tasks and assignments student teachers will need to complete.

Work with student teaching supervisors and faculty in both FSA and CECE to build relationships and partnerships with local schools.

Act as a liaison between the FSA and CECE Departments and the FESP Office.

Undertake the supervision of student teachers in FSA and CECE and/or teaching coursework in these departments as part of a 12 credit load.

Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to inclusive education and access to equitable education for all students.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships
Reports to the chair of the Foundations and Social Advocacy Department
Works closely with the chair of the Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department
Works closely with the Field Coordinator for the School of Education in the Field Experience and School Partnerships Office
Works closely with student teaching supervisors in both FSA and CECE
Collaborates with faculty in the FSA and CECE Departments
Collaborates with administrators and teachers in regional schools
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education or a related field
Master's Degree
Minimum of five years P-6 teaching experience within the last five years
Preferred Qualifications
Current professional teacher certification in elementary education, special education, early childhood education or a related field.
Experience working with college students and college faculty.
Experience mentoring college students (teacher candidates) in school settings.
Ability to articulate the philosophy of inclusive education for students from historically marginalized groups, including disability, race/ethnicity, and English Language learners
