School Overview

Park City Day School is a small, independent PS-Grade 8 school located in the world class resort destination of Park City, UT. We are seeking a passionate, creative, and energetic educator to join our Senior Leadership Team for the school year.

Position Description

Division Directors are charged with the comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in their divisions. The Director of Middle School is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Middle School 6th-8th grade program, including teaching and learning, safety and well-being of students, family and faculty relations, vision-setting, and curriculum oversight and development. The Director of Middle School is a senior administrator, and Middle School faculty member, who also serves on the leadership team and reports to the Head of School.

Duties of the Director of Middle School include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining congruence between all activities in the Middle School and Park City Day School's mission.
  • Functioning as the chief articulator of the Middle School's programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed and consistent with their individual roles.
  • Developing, upholding, and advancing an affirming, positive school climate in the Middle School that prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB).
  • Serving as a leading voice in school-wide initiatives to articulate and advance the school's mission, core values, goals, department objectives, subject area outcomes, materials, and methods and means of instruction and assessment.
  • Acting as the chief educational leader for the Middle School, responsible for its day-to-day operation; directing the activities of faculty and, in conjunction with the Head of School, the non-instructional staff in performance of their duties.
  • Maintain a teaching role with three sections of Middle School students (TBD).
  • Serving as a member of school-wide committees and task forces, including the Academic Council, student support team, and any additional relevant committees.
  • Work closely with the faculty, the Student Support Specialist, School Counselor, and Head of School to ensure behavior issues are addressed and a plan is implemented when necessary. Work with families to communicate the plan when appropriate.
  • Partnering with other members of the senior administration to provide leadership, direction, and decision-making capacity for the entire Park City Day School community.
  • Supporting the school and its leadership, publicly and privately.
  • Monitoring and attending to the educational, physical, social-emotional, and psychological needs of the members of our school community and developing plans for meeting these needs.
  • Providing for the academic guidance of students; maintaining complete academic records on all students; overseeing the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
  • Supervising, supporting, and evaluating faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; reviewing and evaluating the Middle School academic program.
  • Making recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, promotion, and assignment of faculty.
  • Establishing programs for the orientation of new teachers and staff members, for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers, to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of school operation.
  • Conducting regular meetings with faculty to collaborate in management of the Middle School and engage in dialog around issues of educational and philosophical interest and concern.
  • Being a visible presence in all areas of the school; to work toward a resolution of all problems, both routine and unique, as they arise; to keep the Head of School informed of the general problems, activities, and programs of the school.
  • Ensuring compliance with the legal requirements of government regulations and agencies; to maintain educational standards consistent with local agencies and accreditation standards.
  • Overseeing the coordination of the co-curricular programs of the Middle School; assisting in the planning and the presentation of school assemblies, programs, and expositions; assisting in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events; informing the entire school community of various school programs and activities.
  • Preparing, in conjunction with other administrators, a master daily schedule and assigning teachers and students to classes and other duties.
  • Work closely with the Early Childhood Coordinator and Director of Lower School to ensure program alignment and continuity preschool through eighth grade.
  • Assisting in the admission and enrollment process for Middle School students, including testing, interviewing, and evaluating applicants for enrollment.
  • Support the Round Square program and our membership in the organization.
  • Serve as an active participant and chaperone in our Outdoor Education program, including assisting with the planning of trips and attending when necessary, often overnight.
