Installs, opens, changes, and repairs locks. Adjusts and repairs doors, door closure systems, and panic hardware throughout the Washington Hospital Center. Maintains the Hospital's master key way system and fire/smoke door inspection schedules. Education
Completion of a certified commercial locksmith training/educational program required
Experience
1-2 years as a locksmith preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Must be eligible to be bonded
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be familiar with computer applications such as PC spreadsheets and the latest codes, standards, and regulations including, but not limited to OSHA, The Joint Commission, Fire and Life Safety
Installs new and replacement locks and door hardware, makes keys and/or assigns lock/key codes in accordance with the Hospital's master key way system.Opens locks/doors and repairs and/or adjusts locks and locking devices on/in doors and furniture/cabinets for proper closure.Adjusts, repairs, and performs scheduled preventative maintenance on door self-closing devices, undercuts, gaps and astragals to ensure that the doors close and open properly and security is maintained. This includes, but is not limited to: locks, latches, hinges, panic bars, and electronic door holders.Develops estimates for a variety of repairs or new installations in accordance with established requirements. Determines the means and methods to be used, estimates time, material(s), and human resources needed.Updates paper and computer files/records on lock(s)/keys/closure systems installed and/or changed maintaining the Hospital's master key way system. Makes recommendations for changes/ improvements as appropriate.Maintains supplies/inventory. Assists in establishing par levels. Informs supervisor of items needed to be ordered.Maintains current records and documentation of fire/smoke door inspections as detailed in the WHC Building Maintenance Program. Learns and remains current with the latest applicable federal and local governing codes, standards, and regulations regarding fire and safety, including, but not limited to: OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, ANSI, DCRA, D.C. Fire & Safety Codes, and the Hospital's fire and safety practices.
