Duties

Serves as the Recreation Fitness Director overseeing operations and programs associated with the Miramar Sports Complex, the BARN, Semper Fit Center, HITT Center, Intramural Sports, and Aquatics located at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. These programs serve a population of active duty, reserve, and retired military personnel, their family members, civilians, and other authorized customers. The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, manage, and supervise diverse and comprehensive physical fitness programs, which include group exercise classes, self-directed fitness programs, incentive programs, special events, and instructional programs. Contributes to readiness and improving productivity through programs that promote fitness, sports, esprit de corps, and quality of life for authorized customers. Conducts various levels of group exercise classes. Coordinates the use of fitness facilities to accommodate the comprehensive Semper Fit Program and ensures weekly/daily inspections are conducted on fitness and sports equipment, and facilities with discrepancies documented and forwarded to the appropriate office for correction.

Provides enhanced fitness programs and supports the Intramural Sports and Special Programs. Ensures required annual training is accomplished at the unit level, and coordinates with Unit Commanders on Installation outreach programs to assist in the fitness goals of those units.

Plans, coordinates, organizes, and manages diverse and comprehensive physical fitness programs, which include group exercise classes, self-directed fitness programs, special events, and instructional programs. Establishes a comprehensive annual plan, to include program goals and objectives that align with Marine Corps Policy and program metrics.

Initiates purchase requests for required equipment, supplies, and services. Assists in preparation of annual budgets, which include the expenditures required to conduct the fitness programs and resale operation. Performs a variety of administrative tasks to include but not limited to establishing and updating operating procedures, preparing management narratives, after action reports etc.

Reports significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment to the higher-level supervisor. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities to include supervising, mentoring, structuring assignments, and reviewing work of subordinates based on deadlines. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, establishes priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Provides and advocates recognition and feedback for employee performance and contributions and recommends appropriate honorary and/or monetary awards. Advises employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management, and assures that mission and accuracy requirements are met.

Briefs customers and base leadership on program offerings; completes local needs assessments and/or local surveys annually to determine customer needs and incorporates these findings into the annual program plan based on customer feedback. Coordinates with marketing staff to plan and develop promotional, advertising, commercial sponsorship, and publicity strategies. Coordinates and implements joint programs with other Semper Fit and MCCS activities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
