The School of Learning and Teaching at the University of Maine invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track, assistant professor position in the area of Quantitative Methods and Educational Measurement, with an anticipated start date of September 3, 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will report to the School Director and be affiliated with the Research Methodology faculty and the Maine Education Policy Research Institute (MEPRI). Faculty members share responsibility for programmatic and instructional decisions within and across program options. The position carries a typical 2:2 teaching load for tenure-track faculty.

The successful applicant will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in assessment, measurement theory, and quantitative methods. The position is flexible in terms of specific areas of expertise, including standardized assessment strategies, the use of state educational data, and statistical/research methods for small-sample studies. However, those with interests in all areas of quantitative methods and assessment are encouraged to apply.

Beyond teaching, the person hired is expected to engage in scholarship and provide service to the university and profession. The position requires a terminal degree in education, psychology, or closely related field.

Qualifications:
Required:

An earned doctorate in education, psychology, or closely related field by date of hire.
Coursework and training in any of the following areas: assessment, measurement theory, quantitative methods
Potential for scholarly productivity, including a programmatic research agenda
Potential for securing external funding to support research
Interest in collaborating with colleagues in the School of Learning and Teaching
Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring student research at undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels
Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate statistics courses
Ability to teach in-person and online classes
Preferred:

Teaching experience in higher education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
Interest in any of the following areas: standardized assessment instruments, state educational data, non-parametric or small-sample research/statistical methods
Extensive experience with statistical software, such as SPSS, SAS, R, etc.
Coursework and training in educational psychology in any of the following areas: learning theory, motivation, cognitive science, and/or cognitive development
Experience working on team projects
Experience in collaborative efforts with state agencies
Interest in state education policy
Experience working with large and diverse population-based databases
