PROJECT RESPOND DHS COUNSELOR III

This position is located out of the Department of Human Services Office. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Mobile Counselor III (Project Respond/DHS) will provide crisis intervention for adults and children accessing Department of Human Services who are experiencing behavioral health crisis as well as staff who may be impacted by DHS client behavior. This position works as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes a Peer Support Specialist and approaches work with people from a trauma-informed, strength-based perspective and works in concert with programs Multnomah County's Acute Care Continuum. The goal of the team is to ultimately decrease traditional police contact with individuals in crisis by providing high quality care regardless of insurance, income, race, age, or physical ability with the aim of supporting de-escalation of the crisis and linkage to needed community-based services.

REQUIREMENTS

Master's Degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university. Demonstrate the competencies as outlined in the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) to become credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).
Provide mobile crisis response, as part of a 2-person team, to individuals experiencing behavioral health crises at one of the DHS locations within Multnomah County.
Identify and assess risk factors for harm to self or others in the context of the client's current psycho-social context via interview with client and with consideration given to collateral information; consider and articulate potential outcomes of various interventions, discuss their risks and benefits, and formulate why a particular course of action was pursued in lieu of other options; opt for least intrusive and most supportive intervention.
Provide Trauma Support to DHS staff after critical incidences. Trauma Support training will be provided by Cascadia.
Initiate involuntary director's custody transport holds for individuals deemed at risk of harm to self and/or others following County guidelines.
Help facilitate trainings for on de-escalation, trauma-informed approaches, suicide screenings and mobile crisis information to DHS staff.
Document and maintain electronic health record (EHR) and ancillary records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies, program procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
