Library and Digital Learning Teacher (Full-time) Overview:

The Library and Digital Literacy Teacher supports the Lower School and reports to the Lower School Director and Head Librarian. The selected individual will empower students to be curious, creative, and critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical creators of digital content.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages all aspects of the Lower School Library, including collection development, cataloging, circulation, and maintenance of resources.
  • Promotes a love of reading through book literacy-focused activities.
  • Develops and implements innovative programming that enhances the educational experience of students, such as all school read, book collections, and reading challenges.
  • Collaborates with teachers to integrate library resources and technology into curriculum and instructional activities.
  • Fosters a culture of inclusivity and diversity within the library, ensuring that all students feel welcome and represented in the collection and programming.
  • Stays current with emerging trends and best practices in library science, education, and digital literacy.
  • Provides support to students and staff facilitating digital literacy instruction.
  • Provides weekly library and technology lessons for students in grades 1-4.
  • Instructs students in information literacy skills, including research methods, critical evaluation and documentation of sources, and ethical use of information.
  • Instructs students in digital citizenship to develop competency in the responsible and ethical use of technology, including internet safety, digital footprint management, copyright compliance, and critical evaluation of online sources.
  • Instructs students in creating content utilizing various tools in the Google Workspace.
  • Assists with Lower School duties as needed. Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in education or related fields
    • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) preferred
    • Current Ohio teaching certification/license preferred
    • Experience working in school setting preferred
    • Strong knowledge of library systems and procedures, including cataloging, classification, and collection management
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, including Word and Outlook
    • Proficient in Google Workspace for Education
    • Proficiency in creating multimedia content, such as videos and podcasts, and familiarity with editing software
    • Proficiency in educational technology tools and platforms, such as learning management systems, digital databases, and multimedia software
    • Familiarity with integrating augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences into lessons to enhance student engagement and understanding preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging educational programming for diverse student populations
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and community members
    • Commitment to fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the school community
    • Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing educational needs and priorities
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Effective verbal and written communication
