Job Description

The Karlstaedt Lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to be part of an exciting collaborative project focused on understanding metabolic interactions between cancer cells and the heart. This initiative, partially funded by an NIH/NHLBI grant, entails working closely with a multidisciplinary team alongside partners from the Smidt Heart Institute and the Cedars Cancer Center.

Our research group has a proven track record in investigating metabolic pathways using various approaches, including simulation of cardiac metabolism. We apply organ perfusion techniques and stable isotope tracers to assess metabolic flux alterations. The ideal candidate will have the freedom to develop innovative strategies that bridge cardiovascular and oncology research. A key aspect of this role is to establish in vivo mouse models to study metabolic changes in the heart related to cancer, with a current focus on leukemia and solid tumors such as colorectal cancer.

This position offers the opportunity to engage with a dynamic scientific community in Los Angeles for translational research. We aim to leverage our team's expertise and methods to drive impactful discoveries.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in drafting grant proposals.
  • Contribute to publications and presentations.
  • Design and conduct experiments, analyze results.
  • Develop and implement new research techniques.
  • Interpret and compile data.
  • Perform various laboratory procedures.
  • Operate and maintain equipment.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in a relevant area of specialization.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry, tracer studies, and biological data science.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming and omics data analysis.
  • Good communication skills for sharing results in various settings.
