Description

Leidos is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the Climate, Energy & Environmental Division's onsite laboratory in Cleveland, Ohio, supporting the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Harshaw Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) project. This position will require the use of radiological counting instrumentation to support onsite environmental remediation work. The Laboratory Technician will be performing sample analysis by gamma spectroscopy and gross alpha/beta counting. This position will also assist with data analysis, review, and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform formal chain-of-custody sample receipt, verification of sample information, and logging of samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Perform sample analysis using instrumentation including gamma spectroscopy and gross alpha/beta analysis.
  • Maintain a clean laboratory environment by following all laboratory decontamination procedures.
  • Processing of sample results from the instrumentation to the LIMS and subsequent email reporting to data users.
  • Complete data package assembly including primary and secondary reviews and to identify and correct mistakes and inconsistencies utilizing apex and LIMS software.
  • Applicant must be able to follow all radiation and safety procedures in all areas of the laboratory.
  • Applicant must be willing to work on other laboratory projects and some travel to other Leidos laboratories to support setup or laboratory operations.
  • Applicant must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • An associate degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology or a related scientific discipline or a High School Diploma and 2 years' experience working in a laboratory type setting. Any prior experience with radioactive materials, radiation protection, operating gamma spectroscopy systems or gross alpha beta counting systems is desirable.
  • Capable of reviewing, compiling, and providing data files to users.
  • Capable of performing counting procedures on gamma and gross alpha/beta samples.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with LIMS software is preferred.
  • Prior laboratory experience is preferred.
  • OSHA 40-hr Hazwoper and Radworker II training.

MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN A PUBLIC TRUST CLEARANCE.

This role is covered by the Service Contract Act. The pay for this position is expected to be $26.70/hr.
