Description

Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Director, State Policy . This position will be fully remote.

The Director, State Policy will support Johnson & Johnson and the patients we serve by advancing policy and advocacy related to medical technology and assigned issues in close partnership with senior leaders and other key internal partners in alignment with U.S. Federal and global company positions.

The Director, State Policy is an Individual contributor and organizational thought leader with a focus on MedTech and cross-sector issues, including but not limited to issues related to digital emerging technologies and environmental regulation. The Director, State Policy develops policy positions and partners with US State Affairs colleagues to improve the legislative, regulatory and economic environment in which the organization operates; facilitates and contributes to corporate communications and community engagement with government agencies, trade associations, and industry coalitions; and maintains and grows an extensive knowledge of regulations and legislation that affect organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies sophisticated knowledge of the current regulatory and legislative environment and political landscape to advise on commercial decisions and drive creation of innovative approaches to improve organizational growth and visibility.
  • Engages with key internal partners across business units to establish and disseminate policy positions consistent with J&J priorities.
  • Provides timely evaluation of state legislation to build effective US State Affairs advocacy in support of J&J priorities to drive J&J business and minimize risks.
  • Partners with US State Affairs to develop and implement effective strategies to advance J&J priorities in the states.
  • Develops amendments, talking points, issue summaries, one-pagers and white papers as needed to support issue advocacy and internal alignment/education.
  • Evaluates and continuously monitors the regulatory environment for new industry standards, compliance requirements, and regulations, and conducts sophisticated impact assessments to provide insight to strategy modifications.
  • Serves as a recognized subject matter authority on crafting state regulatory process on critical regulatory matters.
  • Engages with industry coalitions, and advocacy groups in order to represent and communicate the organization's policy agenda.
  • Guides colleagues through consultation, mentoring, and collaborative leadership to build depth of capability, and provides functional (matrix) supervision.

Qualifications

Education:

  • BA degree is required. MBA/Master's in related subject area is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 5 years' experience in health policy.
  • Experience working in the life science sector.
  • Proven record in identifying policy trends affecting the health sector and advancing policy solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively lead internal and external audiences to desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to identify strategic priorities, bring together different internal partners, and deliver results.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and be to manage up, down and across for results.
  • Sound ethical judgment and integrity and an ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to manage numerous contending priorities under pressure and effective collaborative working skills.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated.
