Forestry Technician

About the Position: You will serve as a Forestry Technician with the US Army Garrison Hawaii (USAG-HI) Directorate of Emergency Services (DES), Wheeler Army Airfield, Island of Oahu, working as part of a 10-man Strike Team in support of the installation's Integrated Wildland Fire Management Plan (IWFMP).

• Participate in a variety of prevention, detection, wildfire suppression, pre-suppression, and prescribed burning duties.
• Uses wildland fire related tools and equipment.
• Assist in directing activities in a complex fire environment, helping to train other participants.
• Carry out specialized assignments such as backfire or burnout, mobile and stationary engine, or other specialized equipment operation.
• Maintain and monitor conditions of firefighting equipment, fire cache warehouse and supplies, and Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS), fire buckets.
• Perform wildfire prevention activities such as patrolling to gage fire potential and occurrence, distributing literature, explaining wildfire prevention program to the public and base populace, and preparing fire reports.
