Position Overview

The key purpose of the Market Development Manager - Mining & Metals is to enable the Regional Growth and development of Hexion's mining chemicals business by driving the business development needs in North America. Hexion seeks a motivated and solutions oriented professional to apply technical, sales, and business skills to expand our business. This position requires hands-on problem solving to maintain and build profitable sales with existing and new accounts. The successful candidate needs to have an entrepreneurial aptitude with a view toward business growth and profit. They will employ a consultative sales approach that focuses on building a long term, value-based relationship with targeted customers. Travel will be required through much of North America and will involve interaction with industrial customers from industrial operations to executive management.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure the business EH&S goals and targets are met and contribute to the EH&S culture of the business
  • Responsible for developing an in-depth knowledge of industry and customer products and processes both existing and new
  • Responsible for developing a fundamental understanding of market opportunities and assess the ability to achieve targeted growth profitability goals
  • Responsible for achieving the business plan, including projected financial targets as well as providing regular reports detailing volumes and profitability
  • Responsible for maintaining concise technical development records to assist the company knowledge base and disseminate this information appropriately
  • Establishes relationships and engages new customers for sales growth in the mining sector with particular focus on froth flotation processes and their chemical reagents
  • Manage customer technical requirements and application of products by providing high quality technical services to support the business strategy
  • Provides technical support on the application and handling of products, as well as educates customers in chemical use, handling, storage, disposal and safety
  • Collaborate with the Hexion research and development teams to improve the performance of existing products and recommend changes that will improve quality and performance standards
  • Identify the needs of internal and external customers and implement necessary solutions by identifying leads, qualifying them, helping us build out our portfolio.
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers at all levels within their organization

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree (Technical Science, Chemistry, or Engineering)
    • 10+ years of experience in the Mining chemicals industry or related fields; preference given to experience in the mining industry and/or similar role with expertise in froth flotation chemical reagents
    • Strong planning and execution skills
    • Ability to assimilate technical information
    • Customer-facing experience
    • High level of communication skills and the ability to interact and influence management at all levels of an organization
    • Experience in developing and implementing new market penetration strategies with proven results and business growth
    • Strong inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to develop strong, successful business relationships with customers as well as internal teammates
    • Excellent computer skills including MS Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint as well as CRM platforms
    • Ability to work in a team and autonomous environment.
