Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Laker Success Coordinator is a full-time, twelve-month, administrative position under the supervision of Director of Campus Life and Laker Success.

The Laker Success Coordinator is a high-energy, student-centered and highly organized student affairs professional looking to have an impact on the retention and success of LSSU students. The Coordinator supports Campus Life in the areas of student success, leadership training and development, and life skills with the goal of supporting and assisting institutional students who are academically and/or economically disadvantaged. Students expected to receive support include but are not limited to students historically identified through the MI GEAR UP grant, first-generation students, and economically and academically disadvantaged students.

The Laker Success Coordinator will work some evenings/weekends to support programs, special events, and to facilitate daily operations, as needed.

Student Success

• Advocate for students and take a proactive role in their success.

• Collaborate with the campus community, including faculty, administrators, and college partners on students' success.

• Promote students' accountability and develop students' problem-solving skills.

• Provide support in area relating to student success.

• Create programs and resource materials for student success outreach through multiple platforms.

• Outreach to current and prospective students highlighting the support services the Laker Success program offers.

• Contribute to strategic initiatives related to student retention, sense of belonging, and student success.

• Serve as back up, intake coordinator for higher-risk students offering front line intrusive student support. Responsible for assisting in tracking all student and program area interactions, including follow-up. Track outcomes and student growth for all students in the Laker Success program.

• In coordination with the Laker Success IPASS Coordinator, collaborate with Success Coaches, including training, to promote and provide support to students.

• In coordination with the Laker Success IPASS Coordinator, collaborate with resources across campus to support student success including working with academic departments and the Academic Success Center.

Leadership Training and Development

• Design and implement leadership training for program students.

• Assist in implementing and coordinating leadership presenters and sessions including workshops and programming.

Life Skills

• Foster student development in the areas of critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.

• Help students solidify analytical skills for identifying areas for improvement and developing innovative solutions. Ability to recognize problems, conflicts or impact to others, research options, present alternatives, implement solutions and follow through to ensure goals are met.

Assessment

• Design and implement an assessment plan for the Laker Success program.

Other Responsibilities
Opportunity to assist Campus Life with campus-wide programming, orientation and other departmental projects. In collaboration with the Campus Life and Housing staff, create a sense of belonging for students/incoming students at LSSU.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS). Experience in student support.

Ability to work within a team, motivate others, and available and willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.

Passion for working with students who are academically and/or economically disadvantaged.

Effective communication skills (written and verbal), organizational skills, and human relation skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.

Proficiency with virtual platforms for creating resources and providing outreach.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree preferred.
Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.

Physical Demands:

Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; full use of arms, hands, legs and feet to allow completion of housing inspections on a timely basis.
