This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Director of Operational Logistics, Base Portsmouth, Naval Engineering Department, Industrial Production Facility DD-Detroit located in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.



Duties

The position provides support of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Naval Engineering Department, Industrial Operations Division in DD-Detroit which includes the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential building, and on ships.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Installing, modifying, repairing, loading and testing systems, circuits, equipment and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of the work.
  • Interpreting and applying the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits.
  • Determining location of existing electrical devices and service entrances and placing new ones.
  • Planning and laying out work, tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems, and completing repairs and installations.
  • Installing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
