Are you passionate about protecting our marine environment and ensuring sustainable fishing
practices? Do you have a strong maritime background, enjoy working at sea and leadership
skills? If so, this might be the perfect opportunity for you
As a First Mate with Kent and Essex IFCA, you will be a vital part of our dedicated team,
working to safeguard our coastal waters. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Skipper in the operation and maintenance of our patrol vessels.
- Conducting fishery inspections and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with
regulations. - Participating in data collection and research to support marine conservation efforts.
- Leading and mentoring crew members to ensure efficient and safe operations.
What we're looking for:
To join us, you must have enthusiasm for the marine environment and a knowledge of marine
issues and the fishing industry together with a strong drive to enforce rules protecting fish

You'll combine this with good communication skills, an organised approach and a gift for

and at night) and tackle physically demanding duties in a challenging marine environment. We'll
expect you to meet the standard required to obtain a Seafarers Medical Certificate (ENG1), to
be able to locate, board and inspect fishing vessels both on the shore and at sea.
