Position Summary

The Fellowship Associate, Activate Boston provides operational support to the Activate Boston Community, which supports science-based innovators across a wide variety of industries including agriculture, buildings, chemicals, computing, energy, manufacturing, microelectronics, and transportation.

This person works with the Fellowship Manager to coordinate the fellowship experience for the Activate Boston Community, including regular fellow programming, local events, and new fellow selection and onboarding, all based on the vision set forth by the Managing Director. They also help the Activate Boston team continue to build momentum within the Greater Boston innovation ecosystem, finding opportunities that enable the Boston team to create a funding, policy, and partnership environment in which science-based entrepreneurs can thrive. The Fellowship Associate also manages the Activate Boston office, tracks fellowship requirements, and assists with data management.

The Fellowship Associate reports to the Fellowship Manager, Activate Boston.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with Fellowship Manager to design and execute events for fellows, ensuring smooth operations and thoughtful achievement of event objectives.
  • Help plan, coordinate, or join community-building events—including in-person socials, on-campus visits with graduate students, and local conferences.
  • Support the Fellowship Team in maintaining fellow data systems.
  • Ensure smooth execution and record-keeping of standard fellowship milestones, including meetings and reports.
  • Manage the Activate Boston office space, including providing visitor support.
  • Schedule and coordinate the fellow selection process.
  • Assist the Boston team to broaden our impact within the New England region and showcase the benefits of Boston and MA more generally as a desirable relocation destination for applicants.

The Ideal Candidate...

  • Has 6 months to 2 years of experience of working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Has data management or administrative duty experience.
  • Has excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously.
  • Has excellent attention to detail.
  • Is familiar with climate change and the need for innovation to mitigate climate change at a large scale.
  • Is familiar with the Boston region and innovation ecosystem.
  • Has experience planning events of different sizes, in a professional or volunteer capacity.
  • Is comfortable with data management systems and spreadsheets, including Airtable, Asana, Slack, and other project management tools.
  • Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Has a positive attitude, sense of humor, and flexible working style.
  • Is a passionate and mission-driven individual, enthusiastic about scaling climate solutions in collaboration with our partners.
  • Enjoys staying in the know of what is happening within the Boston innovation ecosystem and can highlight to the rest of the team what our potential impact opportunities are.
  • Excited to learn about and convey what some of the top minds in climate, and hard tech more generally, are working on.


About the Role

The Fellowship Associate, Activate Boston role is located in Cambridge, MA. This individual will be hired as a full-time employee of Activate with a competitive salary and full benefits. The position can be part-time remote, but in-person attendance is required for fellowship event days.

A typical day may include communicating with fellows about their requirements, such as scheduling meetings and submitting paperwork, managing guests coming into the office, doing outreach about Activate to individuals in the innovation ecosystem, collecting data, managing Calendly bookings, and progressing on dedicated special project work.
