We are looking for an Assistant Trainmaster for our Baltimore, Maryland facility.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, you will be responsible for monitoring all rail traffic along the MARC Camden, Brunswick, and Penn passenger commuter lines and will be responsible for a variety of reporting duties related to situations that may impact passenger service, the functionality of train stations, and crew management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Assistant Trainmaster will be the first point of contact for issues regarding MARC train service in a 24/7 operations center.
  • Develop, create, and distribute appropriate messages during service disruptions and incidents to stakeholders and to passengers using various social media outlets. Format information and enter into appropriate databases.
  • Consult with internal and external parties to monitor situation during service delays and incidents and develop messaging for distribution to various parties.
  • Manage service disruptions and outages per the department SOP's
  • Track and log incidents, malfunctions, delays, and accidents in a computerized log or database and develop required reports.
  • Act and aid in emergency situations and ensure continuous compliance with MARC rules and regulations.
  • Receive reports of disruptions and deficiencies occurring at stations, such as ticket vending machine and other malfunctions, and forwards such information to MARC and those responsible for maintenance and repair.
  • Receive calls around security concerns and you will be responsible for forwarding this information to security and/or law enforcement as required.
  • Handle management of the work force during his/her shift, ensuring that crew duties are accomplished in compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Facilitate the movement of equipment in revenue and non-revenue service.
  • Will periodically ride regular scheduled trains.
  • Be assigned other duties as determined by Management.
  • This position will be part of team covering a 24/7/365 operations center and may require working nights, weekends, and Holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a railroad position with similar duties, or in a customer service or communications position.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Great attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to multi-task at a high level of efficiency.
  • Strong and effective English communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Job requires variable shift work and is subject to working weekend's overnight shifts and being on call.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree is helpful, but not required.
  • Possess a 242 Conductor Certification or other railroad related certifications.
  • Possess knowledge of 49 Code of Federal Regulations.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Background Check.
  • Maintain valid driver's license.
  • Pass a motor vehicle report review and be able to meet Alstom's driving policy.
  • Pass Pre-employment drug screening.
  • Pass Pre-employment physical and medical evaluation.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
