Part-time Faculty Positions

DePaul University invites expressions of interest for a pool of qualified Part Time Faculty to teach courses in a variety of disciplines across all 10 colleges and schools. Individuals may enter expressions of interest by submitting their credentials to any posting for which they are qualified to teach. Postings are organized by college/school and department. Screening of individuals in the pool is ongoing, depending on curricular need and funding. Individuals will be contacted by the department if they reach the finalist stage for teaching a particular course or set of courses. The pool will remain in place until the closing date specified in the posting details; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must resubmit. All individuals in the pool will be notified by email when the posting is closed.

Job responsibilities include teaching, providing service to the School of Design, and continued professional development. The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in the School of Design and will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Industrial Design. The School of Design uniquely comprises a range of design disciplines (industrial, graphic, UX, game) working closely alongside one another. We are interested in applicants with a focus in industrial design who can foster collaborations with students and colleagues across the school. Our faculty builds bridges within and outside DePaul and engages in community outreach that reflects DePaul's Vincentian Mission. DePaul is on the quarter system, and the teaching load is eight courses per year. Faculty have access to cutting-edge equipment and lab spaces, including two well-equipped makerspaces with facilities for fabricating wood, metal, plastics, soft goods, and electronics; recording, film, stop-motion animation, and motion-capture studios; and several VR and AR production spaces. The position features support for professional development, including participating in workshops and conferences, and exhibiting and presenting work at festivals, galleries, and museums. Colleagues in the School of Design program are dedicated to mutual success and growth, and we are interested in someone who will add new dimensions to our programs.Required Qualifications: We are seeking candidates with experience bringing products to market, and expertise in any other areas related to industrial design. Qualified candidates should be able to teach both theoretical and practical hands-on courses, in both lecture and studio-based formats. Candidates are required to have one of the following credentials: (1) a terminal degree (e.g. MFA, MDes, MID) in industrial design; (2) a graduate degree in a related field (e.g. UI, UX, engineering) and an undergraduate degree in industrial design; or (3) an undergraduate degree in industrial design accompanied by a strong record of extensive professional experience. A commitment to quality teaching at the undergraduate level, an active record of professional creative practice, and evidence of working collaboratively are required. Preferred candidates will have at least two years of teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level; be able to contribute their expertise to shaping DePaul's design curriculum; have experience in design research; and be motivated to work with faculty and students on building curriculum and leading school-wide initiatives. We are especially interested in candidates whose work and interests align with DePaul's Vincentian mission which calls on the university to address the great questions of our day, promoting peaceful, just, and equitable solutions to social and environmental challenges.
