The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is recruiting for an LPN to provide coverage for the Mankato VA Outpatient Clinic. This LPN oversees laboratory and technical equipment operations while performing general laboratory and technical equipment procedures including phlebotomy, point of care testing, and diagnostic testing. The LPN requires professional knowledge and competency in the lab field with focus on phlebotomy, point of care testing and Quality Assurance.

Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Collects blood, urine, or other specimens in a courteous manner from clinic outpatients for a wide variety of requested laboratory and technical equipment tests, including timed specimens, fasting specimens, and peak and trough drug levels.
- Acts in a professional manner and ensures the patient is as comfortable as possible. This includes using special drawing techniques, assuring appropriate patient preparation, use of appropriate collection containers or tubes, and obtaining appropriate specimen volumes.
- Verifies the patient as the individual denoted on the request and labels all tubes/containers with the patient's name, social security number, date, and time to ensure proper identification.
- Adheres to safety, infection control, and universal precautions at all times while collecting and processing blood, urine, or other specimens.
- Must be proficient at phlebotomy, developing adequate efficiency to handle a high volume of patients, including difficult draw patients.
- Prepares several types of specimens for analysis following strict guidelines, which includes preparing specialized specimens involving multiple steps, ensuring the physiologic state of properties is maintained.
- Identifies unusual conditions or discrepancies which may cause erroneous test results.
- Makes sound decisions independently, and takes appropriate action to correct and solve problems.
- Instructs patients in procedures to be followed prior, during, and after tests providing a schedule to patients when required.
- Evaluates requested tests/procedures to determine the suitability of specimens for analysis, requesting or recollecting new specimens if a specimen is determined to be unsatisfactory.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): A recruitment incentive of up to $10,000 has been authorized for eligible, highly qualified applicants. A service agreement is required for all recruitment incentives.
Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
