Experienced Construction Estimator

The Estimator is responsible for the overall project cost estimates, project duration, and planning. Works with clients, architects/ engineers, subcontractors/suppliers to plan cost factors for various projects; analyzes construction documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects by performing the following duties:

Essential Job Requirements:

Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for the assigned projects. Understand contractual terms and conditions. Develop and prepare conceptual estimates using design documents and information using onscreen take-off and estimating software. Develop subcontractors/vendor interest when necessary and manage through the RFP process. Qualifies Subcontractors and vendors. Prepares project budgets and critical path job schedules. Ensures site personnel are provided with correct and accurate documentation. Good communication skills, verbal and written.

Required Education:

BS Civil or Construction Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience in Heavy Civil Construction Estimating
  • Municipal, County, and DOT Roadway Construction experience is a MUST
  • Underground Utility Construction experience is a PLUS (storm, sewer, water)
  • Site Development experience is a PLUS (mass grading, earthworks, site works)
  • Computer proficiency including use of construction software, excel, Word & Outlook

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong Math skills and analytical skills. Knowledge of estimating software. Ability to prepare detailed budgets. Ability to prepare detailed materials lists and costs. Be able to read, interpret, and navigate plans and specifications. Ability to use various office machines as well as blueprint printers. Maintain professionalism when faced with aggressive deadlines and meet those deadlines with minimal supervision. Well organized, ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multi-tasks. Maintain confidentiality. Must be able to work at field locations that require walking long distances and exposure to the elements. Able to lift 20-25 lbs. regularly. Works in an office environment as well as field locations. Fast-paced, exposed to all weather conditions.
