General Summary of Position
Serves as the UNOS and/or OTTR Super User for the Transplant Program. Assumes leadership role with the interdisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes through data-driven metrics. Maintains transplant data tracking in accordance with OPTN and CMS requirements and internally established standards. Responsible for maintenance and workflow governing internal transplant database (OTTR). These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for data collection and reporting for pre and post transplant patients. Maintains transplant data tracking in accordance with CMS and OPTN requirements. Responsible for the validity and accuracy of all reported data.Independently collects, prepares, organizes and enters data into required databases as appropriate. Collaborates with staff within the division as well as throughout the hospital to obtain transplant patient data and report it accurately to governing bodies. Provides statistical information to UNOS.Assists the Transplant Administrator in maintaining departmental policies in accordance with CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) final rulings and OPTN (Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network) policy.Maintains regularly updated quality dashboards with transplant metrics throughout all phases of patient care. Responsible for regular chart reviews to ensure quality standards are being met. Assists in preparation of reports for QAPI meetings.Serves as the liaison between OTTR representatives and the transplant program's end users. Responsible for collecting and conveying end user improvement requests to the database vendor. Responsible for all system customization and maintenance of existing data. Provides ongoing testing/validation of OTTR database information.Coordinates periodic updates of the database. Maintains a current database version that is supported by the OTTR vendor. Responsible for testing all database changes in the Test environment and for final quality control of proposed changes.Provides regular database training and ongoing site support for all employees. Maintains an updated database of help and how-to documents. Collaborates with staff within the division as well as throughout the hospital to implement efficient database operation.Assists with data entry, data tracking and clinical data review for Morbidity and Mortality Meetings, as well as adverse event reviews.Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university. required and
  • Bachelor's degree required and
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing preferred

Experience

  • 3-4 years Three to five years of related research/transplant data experience. required and
  • Previous transplant patient experience and contributions to clinical research preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent understanding of implementing and maintaining transplant database.
  • Must be detail-oriented, and have familiarity with necessary computer/database software and hardware.
  • Understanding of professional healthcare practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of patient relations and education; familiarity with clinical research protocols; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
