Job Description

The Neuroscience Department is seeking a highly motivated, flexible, and technically skilled Senior Scientist with expertise in cellular and molecular biology to join the Neurocircuits Team at the West Point Site. The Team conducts all aspects of pharmacological/biochemical research related to the development of pre-clinical candidates for a wide variety of neuroscience programs.

The successful candidate will have a background in immunoassay development, biochemistry, pharmacology, or physiology. They will demonstrate a solid foundation with respect to their background education through the implementation of in vivo/ex vivo biochemical experiments to determine the efficacy of compounds for neuroscience indications. In addition, the candidate should have extensive experience in data collection, statistical analysis and the interpretation of data in the context of a pre-clinical research environment. Experience with biomarker assay development using a variety of biochemical and/or enzymatic assays related to proteinopathies associated with neurodegenerative diseases is desired.

Key responsibilities:

  • Independently implement, perform and troubleshoot a range of in vivo and ex vivo experiments including those related to biochemistry, biomarker assays, and physiology for neuroscience-related indications.
  • Transparency and ability to maintain accurate records such that data are reproducible by someone skilled in the art.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities within and across departmental collaborations to drive research projects/programs with the ultimate goal of positively impacting patient's lives.
  • Interface with others across the organization including disease area biologists, and specialists in safety assessment, chemistry, and pharmacokinetics & drug metabolism to drive drug discovery decision making.
  • Establish and manage external research collaborations on an as needed basis.

Education:

  • Ph.D. degree in in neuroscience or a related discipline with postdoctoral experience or other relevant work post Ph.D, OR Master's degree in abovementioned discipline with at least 3 years of relevant work experience, OR Bachelor's degree and at least 6 years of relevant work experience

Required:

  • Ability to design and execute immunoassays (e.g. ELISA, alphaLISA, SIMOA) using brain and fluid samples and assess efficacy/translational biomarker readouts.
  • Excellent data analytical and problem-solving skills with experience using standard scientific software for data analysis and graphing.
  • Team player with a collaborative personality and ability to work in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experimental records and oral presentation skills.
  • Proven track record of scientific accomplishment including generating publication quality data and contributing to manuscript or patent preparation.

Preferred:

  • Extensive experience with molecular biology and imaging assays such as high-content imaging platform, qPCR, Western blot, etc.
  • Expertise in cell culture techniques and development of in vitro functional assays using genetic and pharmacological manipulation.
  • Familiarity with animal handling requirements including drafting animal procedure statements, and the safe handling and dosing of laboratory animals.
