Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for performing technical and analytical work to support the civil litigation needs of Health Care Fraud (HCF) investigations and trials for the United States Attorney's Office. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Providing technical litigation support to Health Care Fraud (HCF) civil trial teams in order to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation;
  • Applying knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and of Evidence, court requirements, and district practices to determine the best way to organize and manage case-specific discovery and then using discovery to prove the case by determining what evidence should be presented and how it should be presented;
  • Recommending and identifying appropriate software packages such as: databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications based on the effectiveness of presenting complex and voluminous evidence, producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and/or meeting individual user needs;
  • Preparing exhibits for legal proceedings which may involve a wide range of visual materials including charts, graphs, diagrams, etc.;
  • Reviewing, analyzing and synthesizing Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance data for suspicious billing patterns, loss calculations, etc.
  • Performing specialized legal research and writing in support of civil HCF cases, including research and analysis of statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases to include those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
