At Freddie Mac, you will do important work to build a better housing finance system and you'll be part of a team helping to make homeownership and rental housing more accessible and affordable across the nation.

Employees, contingent workers and visitors are no longer required to show proof of vaccination to be on-site. Effective January 2023, Freddie Mac's hybrid work arrangement is 3 days in the office (specifically Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday).

Position Overview:

As a member of the Scenario Design team with Finance's Capital Department, you will support the teams' efforts in facilitating the designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-wide scenarios used for capital planning, stress testing, credit loss forecasting, resolution planning and other business planning purposes. This role will require highly quantitative, analytical, and strong communication skills, ideally leveraging prior stress testing and policy experiences, to help define both the construction as well as the narrative for Freddie Mac's internal scenarios. This role will partner extensively with colleagues across Finance, Business Functions, Risk, and other areas of the enterprise.

Our Impact:

Freddie Mac's Capital Department within the Finance Division is responsible for the planning, forecasting, reporting, and optimization of capital as well as resolution planning. The department focuses on the oversight of capital management, capital planning and elements related to business strategies, risk appetite and capital contingency, as well as regulatory and policy initiatives, and has more recently been tasked with leading the development of internal scenarios (in addition to regulatory-driven scenarios) for purposes of stress testing and capital target setting/planning. Capital department is also responsible for leading the development of the Enterprise's Resolution Plan. To support these ends, the role will support a wide range of analytical work that will help decide and support Freddie Mac's strategies – including capital planning and resolution-ready capabilities within the stress testing framework.

Your Impact:

  • Support the development and submission of various macroeconomic scenarios and forecast paths with up-to-date economic themes for capital planning, stress testing, credit loss forecasting, and resolution planning
  • Partner with colleagues across Finance, Business Functions, Risk, and other areas of the Enterprise to support the design, development, and maintenance of the internal scenarios
  • Deep understanding of major variables and how they effectively test portfolio's vulnerabilities to construct an economically coherent internal scenario that help guide business strategies and capital management
  • Perform data analytics to ensure accuracy in data for downstream model usage; create and maintain scenario design library
  • Work across capital team to help garner a more comprehensive view of capital across a stress continuum (from a BAU, stress and resolution perspective)

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of related professional/industry experience – previous financial services experience is preferred
  • Sophisticated understanding of data and modeling; Knowledge of key risk types that affect capital (credit, market and operational risks) and other key risk types (climate risk) is a plus
  • Prior work experience in areas related to financial analytics or CCAR/DFAST stress testing, or capital planning or policy is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of key risk types that affect capital (credit, market and operational risks) and other key risk types (climate risk) is a plus
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to distill key messages from complex financial analyses for presentations to senior management and other partners
  • Proven ability to take initiative, collaborate cross-functionally, and synthesize feedback for purposeful solutions
  • An undergraduate degree is required. Advanced degrees (PhDs/MAs in economics, finance and applied math are strongly preferred)

Keys to Success in this Role:

  • Strong organizational, analytical, project management, and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail – demonstrate excellent financial analysis skills (Superb Excel, coding and other data analysis skills a plus)
  • Phenomenal teammate, with the mentality of "no role is too small or too ambitious"
  • Show flexibility in thinking as new processes are developed and multiple iterations are expected, given centralized process for internal scenario design is a new effort for the enterprise
  • Ability to quickly learn complicated concepts and take feedback from subject matter experts to obtain desired inputs/results for analysis
  • Be independent and intellectually curious, a thought-leader in resolving issues and challenges and proposing solutions
