Why is this role important to Field Nation?

This Senior Principal Software Engineer will have the opportunity to impact our Field Nation product by creating and designing new features, delivering on the product roadmap releases, and working collaboratively across the organization to continuously build up our product. This critical position will be responsible for the technical direction of multiple teams over a designated Practice area. You will participate in the discovery, definition, and delivery of initiatives while providing direction and influence into the overall architectural strategy. This position will also offer the chance to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where new innovative ideas are encouraged and collaboration is a must. This position is located in Minneapolis, MN, and reports to the Sr. Director of Engineering.

What you'll get t do:

  • Demonstrate technical excellence to coach teams to build scalable, reliable, performant, and maintainable services and complex multi-faceted platforms
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of microservices, containerization, serverless, SQL, and no-SQL databases, data modeling and analytics, caching, security, REST APIs, build automation, test automation, and infrastructure automation.
  • Ability to define and evangelize engineering best practices and patterns across a large and distributed organization
  • Utilize experience to guide teams and contribute as necessary to build, maintain, and support large-scale software solutions in a serverless environment or with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Write high-quality code and tests following test-driven design principles and set reusable patterns for quality automation across the department.
  • Work within an agile framework to continuously deliver quality software in a fast-paced environment
  • Assist in the operation of the service, e.g., monitoring, alerting, metrics, logging, and troubleshooting
  • Active in daily code reviews to ensure new code conforms to the highest standards
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor other engineers to help them reach their potential

You might be a good fit if you have:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience with progressive levels of responsibility
  • Significant experience with high throughput, low latency, highly available, self-healing systems
  • Ability to work effectively with different product delivery disciplines, including product management, user experience, data, test and integration, and site reliability.
  • Broad technical knowledge – we look for people who can tie together technologies to solve really big problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team and across teams
  • Ability to break down larger initiatives into manageable pieces
  • Experience working with offshore teams is a plus
