Remote, Oregon, United States SailPoint Full time

About SailPoint:
SailPoint is the leader in identity security for the cloud enterprise. Our identity security solutions secure and enable thousands of enterprise companies worldwide, giving our customers unmatched visibility into the entirety of their digital workforce, ensuring workers have the right access to do their job - no more, no less.
Built on a foundation of AI and ML, our Identity Security Cloud Platform delivers the right level of access to the right identities and resources at the right time-matching the scale, velocity, and changing needs of today's cloud-oriented, modern enterprise.
About you and the role:
As a Software Principal Engineer at SailPoint, you will be a key member of our engineering team, driving the overall design and development of our Identity Security Platform, Atlas. You will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business objectives and technical execution. You will need to possess a deep understanding of our business landscape, including market dynamics, customer needs, and strategic goals. Your primary responsibility will be to translate this business insight into actionable technical requirements and innovative design solutions.
You are immensely passionate about platform architecture, and delivering reliable, scalable microservices and infrastructure for SaaS products. You will interact with technical teams across SailPoint to architect systems that scale to process billions of events and support millions of users. You enjoy technical leadership, technical design and solving complex challenges as much as you enjoy getting your hands into the code.
Future thinker -

  • You constantly think about the security, reliability and resiliency of our platform and how to maintain it. You believe that it's not a matter of if we will be attacked, but when. Every decision you make is based on that premise.
  • Technology choices that scale - you understand our technology landscape, the direction that technology is evolving, when something will be obsolete, and can make sound decisions or assumptions based on those factors.
  • Business minded - You understand our total addressable market and you know who our competitors are and what they are building. You understand where SailPoint is headed. You can balance immediate needs (escalations, customer satisfaction) and understand the long-term impacts of your decisions. Urgency to scale (pace), you don't get distracted by analysis paralysis.

Thought leader -

  • You keep up with technology and the direction it's going. You have a firm grasp on how to assess new tools and make informed decisions on whether or not change is in order.
  • You have high communication standards for yourself and others

Roadmap & Timeline for Success:
Within the first 30 days you will:

  • Onboard into your new role, get familiar with our product offering and technology stack
  • If applicable, come up to speed on Identity Access Management space
  • Get familiar with our competitors, their product offerings and the direction of their businesses
  • Get to know your peers, leaders and other engineers to understand current state, challenges and motivations
  • Seek to deeply understand current state of identity security industry, our business problems or common engineering challenges, and as it relates to SailPoint propose software architecture designs to solve them
  • Learn about our Top 5 Project Initiative
  • Interview stakeholders to understand our business goals, product roadmap and challenges ahead of you

By 90 days:

  • Set the standard for excellence in engineering by advocating design and coding best practices
  • Look beyond the immediate backlog to create and share a forward-thinking technical vision for your team
  • You have a full grasp of our product and are developing a technology strategy
  • You are prioritizing projects and defining scopes of work and developing solutions, all the while asking yourself "how quickly will my solve be outdated?"

By 6 months:

  • You are regularly mentoring and coaching members of your team
  • You own multiple significant projects
  • You provide technical leadership to your team while also delivering high quality code on your own
  • Lead significant and thoughtful critiques of others' design documents
  • Consistently achieve targets and meet deadlines; you ensure the quality of deliverables exceeds expectations

By 1 year:

  • You are flexing your lifelong learning muscles, staying abreast of emerging external technologies to understand when to introduce them to your team.
  • You are defining and executing on new components Engineering Technology Strategy.
  • You are leading the implementation (Arch/design/Development) of new services and product offerings with talents and world class Engineers.
  • You are presenting and communicating the technological leaps to executives as well as high level stakeholders
  • Translating overarching business strategies into actionable technical roadmaps will be your key responsibility, ensuring synergy between vision and execution.
  • You are recognized as a subject matter expert of SailPoint Services and offerings both internally and externally and giving training sessions, webinars, or speak at conferences
  • With a focus on talent development, you'll hire, mentor, and coach new team members, fostering a culture of growth and excellence.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience developing software in Java, leading teams, design and setting technical direction
  • Deep understanding of modern technologies and paradigms and are excited to learn new ones (e.g. Golang, Docker, Redis, Postgres, GraphQl, Python, Kafka, Terraform, Timescale, AWS)
  • Experience leading a team on a redesign or creation of new major features at scale
  • Experience building and running scalable and reliable systems
  • Experience decomposing monoliths and moving to distributed systems
  • Product minded: You can turn complex business requirements into working software that our customers love to use.
  • A positive and collaborative demeanor, combined with the ability to coach, mentor and delegate
  • Superior communication skills
  • Life-long learner- you stay up to date with technology trends, spend time learning new technologies, and share your leanings with your team.
