Physician (HBPC) Geriatric

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
DutiesResponsibilities include providing care to Veterans in GEC Home and Community based programs, geriatric clinics, and teaching of trainees. Board Certification in Training Specialty within two years of appointment is required. Geriatric clinic, Interdisciplinary Team experience, and leadership skill are a plus.
The incumbent reports to the HBPC (Home Based Primary Care) Medical Director for all clinical, administrative, and quality performance matters The successful candidate will provide comprehensive medical and primary/palliative care to homebound veterans.
Duties performed will be consistent with selected provider's granted privileges and based upon individual training, qualifications, and experience.The selected individual will be responsible for performing duties to include, but not limited to the following:
- Provides care within the context of a multidisciplinary approach and documents services through appropriate
- Provides clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioners, Fellows, Residents and students and participates in the education program
- Participates in interdisciplinary team activities and provides cross coverage to other programs.
- Participates actively in delivering inservice training for medical center staff, Internal Medicine Fellows, medical residents, and medical students; and supports an environment that promotes academic excellence and encourages continual learning; and
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with other practice areas to ensure adequate and appropriate delivery of longterm care services to Veterans.
Clinical Responsibilities:
(75% of time)
- Maintains a clinical caseload of 110. Will be required to make home visits for Patient care.
- Provides clinical consultation to Atlanta VAMC clinical staff both within and outside of Geriatric and Extended Care Service Line.
Academic/Teaching/Training:
(10% of time)
- Provides leadership, guidance, teaching and consultation on staff education and development to Atlanta VAMC HBPC clinical staff including family/geriatric residents and fellows as well as other clinical trainees and clinical staff.
- Serves as planner, faculty and/or presenter for Employee Education System and VA Southeast Network trainings as requested.
Research/Program Evaluation:
(5% of time)
- Is responsible for oversight and completion of HBPC research and program evaluations as directed by the HBPC Medical Director, Manager, GECSL, the Medical Center, VISN and VACO, ensuring compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies (such as the Joint Commission).
- Consults with and serves as a resource for other Atlanta VAMC professional personnel concerning the successful implementation of geriatric related research. This includes submitting research and/or program evaluation proposals, serving as PI or Co-I on research projects, reviewing and rating research/program evaluation proposals and serving on research and program evaluation related work groups and committees.
Other Significant Responsibilities:

- May serve on Operation Committees, Executive councils or other Atlanta VAMC Committees at the discretion of the Chief GECSL, Medical Director of HBPC and Medical Center needs.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
The Geriatric, Extended Care (GEC) Service Line and the Home Base Primary Palliative Care Program are responsible for the care of Veterans in a multitude of programs.
