Job Title: Tax and Compliance Specialist

Department: Finance and Accounting

Reports To: Controller

Position Overview: The Tax and Compliance Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of state and local tax compliance, including registrations and filings. This role will also coordinate the preparation of sales, use, and income tax filings in conjunction with third-party accounting firms. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with all tax regulations and maintain accurate records of all tax-related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee state and local tax compliance, ensuring all registrations and filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate with third-party accounting firms to prepare and file sales and use tax returns, as well as income tax returns.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations, advising the finance team on any changes that may impact the organization.
  • Assist in tax audits and inquiries by gathering necessary documentation and providing detailed explanations as required.
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and maximize compliance.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of all tax documents and correspondences.
  • Provide support to the controller with various projects and tasks related to tax and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Understanding of state and local tax laws.
  • Proficient in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
