SALARY RANGE: $ $18.00 Hourly

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification,

commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Definition of Classification:

The Operations Manager manages the stage and equipment in support of the Conservatory of Music's events and activities.

Reporting to the Director of the Conservatory of Music, this position supports the diverse performance activities of the Conservatory of Music.

This position requires flexibility to work evenings, nights and weekends, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Coordinates setup for all performance spaces in support of the Conservatory of Music and is responsible for the professional appearance in the performance spaces including establishing and maintaining a standard set-up, places work orders for maintenance, and requests upgrades and enhancements as needed; schedules additional housekeeping and climate control as needed.
Oversees the proper storage and inventory of performance and event-related equipment.
Coordinates distribution, maintenance, repair, and inventory of Conservatory of Music-owned instruments.
Assists the Conservatory of Music with set-up and tear-down for special events, including concerts, audition days, annual piano sales, and music festivals.
Support the annual Feast of Lights
Oversees safety compliance in all backstage areas.
Supervises and trains student workers including stage managers and music library assistants.
Assists the Conservatory of Music in maintaining the condition and security of the musical instruments in the performing spaces, including the Casavant organ, piano lab, practice room pianos, and the concert grand pianos.
Adheres to all safety and housekeeping policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

Experience/Training/Education:

High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with two (2) years of additional coursework in Music or a related field.
Six (6) months of related experience in a similar position or related experience.
A valid California Class C CA drivers' license with a good driving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class "C" driver's license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
Note: A physical examination demonstrating physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge and understanding of musical instruments including identification, proper handling, and appropriate use.
Ability to apply legal and policy standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to facilitate cooperation through discussion and consensus-building.
Excellent oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records.
Effective project management
Effective supervisory, interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of applicable, federal, and state laws and regulations.
Ability to be a self-starter and work independently or on a team with little direction.
Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and other applications such as scheduling applications.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism, sensitivity, and neutrality.
Ability to use appropriate judgment when making decisions and recommendations.
Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Working Conditions:

Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

Physical Demands:

Incumbents regularly stand for long periods of time; speak clearly and distinctly to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; walk on a regular basis; travel to various locations; finger dexterity may be required to utilize and operate the specialized tools and equipment; distinguish colors and have depth perception; reach with hands and arms; pushing, pulling lifting and occasional crawling; stoop or kneel or crouch; ascend/descent ladders, scaffolding, ramps and/or poles; climb stairs; and lift, carry and/or move objects typically weighing up to 10-25 pounds and on occasion up to 50 pounds. There may be exposure to inclement weather as well as to dirt/dust, chemicals/solvents, and noise with occasional exposure to temperature extremes and vibrations.
