As the Outside Plant Construction Technician II in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, your main responsibility will be to install PON/fiber network communications facilities both buried and aerial in compliance with industry and TDS standards. You will operate construction equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, and plows to place fiber facilities. This job also involves tasks like testing, troubleshooting, and repairing aerial and underground fiber facilities within TDS Telecom serving areas.

Training:

As an Outside Plant Construction Technician II, you will have the chance to earn a Class A CDL through our training program. Safety training will be provided, and you will receive hands-on experience with various construction equipment and fiber optic training.

This position offers a $1,000 sign-on bonus (terms apply).

The pay range stated for this position indicates the minimum and maximum base compensation. The final offer will be determined considering factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Some positions may be eligible for additional compensation like bonuses and equity awards.

  • Performs general construction labor in various weather conditions while ensuring safety.
  • Operates construction and excavating equipment to build and maintain outside plant fiber facilities.
  • Installs new aerial and buried fiber following maps and staking sheets.
  • Handles tasks like updating GIS, maps, addresses, and setting up facilities.
  • Proficiently uses test equipment for outside plant facilities and construction tasks.
  • Identifies and repairs defective fiber using specialized equipment.
  • Locates cable and fiber based on requests and construction needs.
  • Ensures site restoration post-project completion.
  • Trains and mentors team members as needed.
  • Services, cleans, and maintains equipment.
  • Completes paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Assists field services technicians when required.

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience operating construction equipment or current/prior military service.
  • Must adhere to TDS attendance guidelines and hold a valid driver's license.

Other Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
  • Physical requirements include climbing, lifting, and kneeling as needed.
  • Must pass customer-specific requirements and background check.
  • Preferred experience in fiber optic cable construction or utilities installation.
  • Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Willingness to work overtime and varying shifts.
