The Opportunity
Future focused and always one step ahead

The Operations Manager will assist the COO in various capacities to implement initiatives that drive strategic priorities, improve processes and research and address issues as they arise across all MRUS functions. The Operations Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the Underwriting Support function.

Responsibilities:
  • Represent the COO in leading special projects that serve to enhance processes, cross-functional communication, as well as transactional support across MRUS and relevant Shared Services.
  • Identify applications and recommend additional support for MRUS and work with Global IT to develop, drive and implement a response. Work with business owners to migrate local business applications within the global MRM IT framework.
  • Monitor and manage the division's compliance with norms guidelines and ORCS, facilitating and leading where necessary any operational responses to audit findings. Manager other operational tasks and projects.
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment along with interaction with various departments within MRAm and directly with MRAm clients.
  • Manage the unit's response to requests from other departments and corporate centers and recommend next steps.
  • Establish, monitor and continually evaluate procedures and guidelines for improving internal processes, workflows and integrity of data.
  • Develop expert knowledge of Treaty/Program underwriting, contracts, processing and pricing systems
  • Represent MRUS' interest on corporate projects and initiatives. MRUS lead on any global or local project that impacts the business unit or division.
  • Manage the Underwriting Support function and mentor the Underwriting Support team by:
    • Providing feedback and guidance on career development plans and related topics, monitoring workloads and promoting a team environment
    • Overseeing the timely processing of business according to underwriting guidelines, ensuring the team leads hold the team accountable and manage all deliverables including quality assurance reports.
    • Working with client groups, underwriting and actuarial staff to ensure that consistent underwriting support and processes are in place, as well as special project teams to assess any changes needed to support future platforms.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in the areas of risk or capital management, actuarial pricing or reserving, underwriting, technical accounting, financial planning, budgeting and reporting preferred.
  • Thorough working knowledge of reinsurance and/or insurance industry
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization
  • Tech savviness and a willingness to experiment with and learn new technologies
  • Excellent customer service skills with successful ability to take ownership of and resolve issues
  • Effective problem solver and results-driven
  • A proactive and passionate service approach with ability to take ownership and drive issues to resolution
  • Highly adaptive and able to work effectively in ambiguous and changing environments
  • Successful people management a plus
