International School of Brooklyn seeks a dynamic, hardworking librarian for the school year and beyond .

Job Description and Responsibilities:

The Librarian at the International School of Brooklyn is a vital member of the educational team, dedicated to nurturing a passion for reading and enhancing information literacy skills in students from Pre-K through 8th grade. The ISB library is multilingual and holds over 15,000 print titles, a digital collection, and databases. Collaborating closely with teachers, the Librarian integrates library resources into the curriculum, conducts library classes, and oversees the day-to-day functions of the library. The Librarian works in tandem with the Head Librarian. This position is full-time and follows the academic year schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with classroom educators to design and teach engaging learning experiences.
  • Teach and assess information literacy skills, with a focus on ethical use of information and citation.
  • Teach fixed classes for Pre-K through 5th grade and flexible classes for grades 6-8.
  • Provide reader's advisory services to students and families.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of classic and current children's and middle-grade literature.
  • Model a commitment to respect diversity, equity, and inclusion in collection development and within the learning community.
  • Empower the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
  • Provide readers' advisory services for adolescents and adults in the community.
  • Champion equity, access, and intellectual freedom for library users.
  • Collaborate in managing daily library operations, including cataloging, circulation, and creating displays.
  • Assist in creating and managing digital publications and online presence.
  • Assist with collection development, including policies, acquisitions, and weeding.
  • Lead or participate in clubs and programs such as book clubs, author/illustrator visits, and parent workshops.
  • Supervise students in the library after school and provide support as needed. Candidates will have:
    • A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited university, or be actively working towards one preferred.
    • Experience working in a school library or with youth.
    • Fluency in French and/or Spanish is preferred but not required.
    • Creativity, curiosity, and attention to detail.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic school environment.
    • Passion for reading and books.
    • Appreciation for working with young people.
    • Sense of humor, flexibility, and interpersonal skills.
