Statement of the Job:
The University of Maine Honors College seeks applicants for one on-going lecturer position and one fixed term (one-year) lecturer position. These are academic-year positions, anticipated to start September 3, 2024. Founded in 1935, for nearly 90 years Honors at UMaine has provided challenging academic opportunities to students who seek an amplified undergraduate experience. Our students come from more than 70 different majors across campus, and our faculty come from many different disciplines, from psychology to philosophy, history to biomedical sciences. Above all, we thus seek a dynamic teacher who is committed to student development and mentorship across the disciplines and who wishes to contribute to ongoing conversations regarding student success, curriculum design, and the development of inclusive communities in Honors education.

The position carries a 4:4 teaching load with no research expectations; responsibilities will include teaching first- and second-year Honors courses and the possibility of upper-level courses in the applicant's area of interest. Service on Honors thesis and other committees is expected.

The UMaine Honors College is home to more than 800 students who undertake a curriculum that enhances both the breadth and depth of their education. For more than 80 years, the Honors College has provided academic opportunities to motivated, intellectually curious undergraduates. These students begin their college careers with a four-semester interdisciplinary core sequence taught in small seminar classes and conclude with a required two-semester senior thesis mentored by a scholar in their field.

Qualifications:
Required:

Terminal degree in disciplinary field by date of hire
Evidence of ability to teach successful courses at the undergraduate level
Preferred:

Experience teaching in an Honors program
Experience mentoring undergraduate research
Experience with innovative and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning
