Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work involved in the servicing, repair, and maintenance of automobiles, buses, trucks, and other motor driven equipment and vehicles.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Services automobiles, buses, trucks and other motor driver equipment and vehicles with fuel, oil, and lubricants.
  • Washes and steam cleans vehicles.
  • Repairs and changes tires.
  • Checks equipment and automotive batteries, coolants, and lubricants.
  • Moves vehicles and equipment from place to place, test drives and transfers vehicles, as required.
  • Observes and reports defective parts or operation of equipment serviced.
  • Provides road service and towing.
  • Performs minor welding duties.
  • Completes basic forms of services performed including work orders, mileage sheets, parts, and service books.
  • Sweeps and cleans garage, and performs snow removal.
  • Provides assistance and information to coworkers.
  • Maintains written records of repair and servicing of vehicles and equipment.
  • Travels to different work sites to perform maintenance duties.
  • Handles firearms and personal equipment for removal and security from police vehicles.
  • Performs facility security and lock up at end of work shift.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of specialized training beyond high school in the auto and truck repair and maintenance trades.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or equivalent.
  • A valid Montana Class B Type 2 commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must be forklift certified or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Must provide own tools adequate to perform duties.
  • Must be available to respond to emergency callback, as necessary.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. 10:00 p.m., or
  • Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m.

Salary:
$ $ per hour. Salary reflects Step 2 and Step 6 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.
