We are looking for a Senior Manager to lead our Security Detection and Response team. In this role, you will build and scale our detection engineering program, mature our security incident response processes, and lead security incidents across the company. We are looking for a technical leader with a background in security engineering and incident response to support, develop, and empower a team of security engineers. You will bring a pragmatic and risk-driven approach to detection and response and prioritize automation.
What You'll Do:
- Define and implement the vision for detection engineering, security incident response, and threat intelligence
- Mentor, grow, and support a team of security engineers and incident responders
- Develop and mature our security incident response processes, playbooks, and metrics
- Partner with engineering to implement security controls
- Lead the development of detections, tools, automations, and product integrations in support of detecting and responding to threats
- Serve as Incident Commander and lead security incidents for the company
What We're Looking For:
- An empathetic and inclusive leader with experience in leading a team of security practitioners
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate security risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Technical understanding of attacker threats and exploitation techniques, and first-hand experience in investigating them
- Experience in serving as an Incident Commander or leading large, cross-functional security incidents
- Experience in securing, identifying threats, and responding to incidents in one major public cloud infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, or Rust
- Experience in scaling a detection engineering program or building high-fidelity detections-as-code
We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:
- Expertise in utilizing Splunk to include investigating threats, developing metrics and dashboards, normalizing data feeds, and integrating with other tools
- Published security research or have spoken at community events on Detection & Response
- Familiarity with content delivery networks (CDN), edge cloud platforms, or other Fastly products and services
Work Hours:
- This position will require you to be available during core business hours and support an escalation-tier on-call rotation
Work Locations & Travel Requirements:
This position is open to Hybrid And Remote Work Locations.
The preferred locations for this position are:
- New York, NY
- San Francisco, CA
- Denver, CO
Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.

Salary:
The estimated salary range for this position is $211,370 to $264,220.
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly's equity and discretionary bonus programs.
