ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

The Hershel "Woody" Williams VAMC is seeking an Orthopedic Surgeon for a full-time staff physician position. The ideal candidate would be a BE/BC Orthopedic Surgeon, who have an unrestricted MD/DO medical license with excellent clinical skills, and experience in the full range of general orthopedic care including major joint replacement.

The Hershel "Woody" Williams Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Huntington, W. Va. is a fully accredited 80-bed acute medical and surgical care facility that provides primary care, specialty health services, including radiology, orthopedic surgery, mental health services, women's health care, prosthetics, bariatric surgery, pain management, palliative care, sleep medicine and more.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Managing difficult outpatient, inpatient and operative orthopedic cases and making recommendations to the Chief of Surgery regarding management of these cases.Provides professional services requiring a full range of inpatient and outpatient Orthopedic Surgery services consistent with the hospital's capabilities at Huntington VA Medical Center.Provides surgical services and diagnostic procedures that are clear, concise, and in keeping with modern medical terminology.Provides immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur to individuals presented for care.Provides professional advice to surgical staff upon request and in emergency situations regarding professional management of patients being treated.Responsible for administrative activities normally associated with patient care in a hospital setting such as consults, encounters, PEER and legal reviews.Facilitates patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.Responsible for providing specialty care and coverage on-call in accordance with department policy and requirements.Provide direct patient care as well as resident supervision and clinical instruction in the operating room, outpatient clinic and inpatient settings.Provides immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur to individuals presented for care.Responsible for the education of medical students and training of interns, residents, technicians, and other physicians.All other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the Agency, Department, Facility, and/or Service.Maintains required continuing medical education through conferences, reading programs or other approved CME events.Physician may be responsible for on-call services (including nights, weekends & holidays).Compensation / Benefits:Excellent compensation – Great base salary, based on qualifications, with annual performance pay, biennial market pay raises & annual cost of living pay raises.Sign-on Incentive available – Will be authorized for highly qualified applicants.Student Loan Forgiveness (EDRP) - Up to $200,000 in student loan forgiveness available – based on work commitment.Excellent daily work schedule – Monday thru Friday – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, but subject to change depending on the needs of the Service/Medical Center.Generous time away from practice – 26 days of annual leave, 13 annual sick days and 11 paid federal holidaysAnnual CME allowance with 5 days for attending CME events.Malpractice – Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) / 401K with up to 5% in VA matching contributions vested after 3 years.Qualify for defined federal pension after 5 years of federal service.Insurance – Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care availableContract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting
