Inova Mount Vernon Nocturnist is seeking an experienced and motivated Hospitalist to join our team.

The nocturnist will provide direct hands-on care to patients within the limits of credentials granted by the Medical Staff of Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in recognition of advanced training and experience in this field. Additionally, they will adhere to patient care and admission criteria policies and procedures of the Department of Medicine

Provide direct medical and inpatient care services in a high volume community hospital to adult non-surgical inpatients in a comparable manner, regardless of such patients' insurance status, as a primary care provider within specified area of licensure, as needed, to accommodate day-to-day workload requirements of the program. Weekly on-call duties to cover hospitalist service inpatients as determined by the Medical Director of the Hospitalist Service. Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Serve as a member of the Rapid Response and MSET Teams. Chart Completion and Documentation.

Serves as Hospitalist in accordance with a published schedule determined by the Department which will include:
- Emergency Department call for the Department of Medicine
- Hospital admissions from community physicians per practice coverage agreements as well as transfers from outside facilities
- Inpatient consultation as requested by other services

Requirements:

Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine

Licensed to practice internal medicine in the State of Virginia

Credentialed by the INOVA Health System as an associate or courtesy member of the medical staff with clinical privileges in internal medicine, to include the care of inpatients.

The physician exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team-based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery. Participates in quality and best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost effective care delivery to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes. Performs high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management under physician supervision by following state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical and surgical practice settings.

Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice

Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging and other pertinent data. Reviews patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and familyEvaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategyAssumes clinical management for the acute care patient population in collaboration with physicians in practiceProvides accurate record keeping as evidenced by complete and pertinent history and physicals, pre-operative progress notes, discharge summaries and data information sheetsServes as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and studentsAssists physicians in the care management of patients during emergenciesParticipates in and supports the departmental, hospital and system-wide quality performance improvement initiativesSupports departmental cost savings strategies and provides care in an efficient and cost conscious mannerAssists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practiceParticipates in clinical research/data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialtyProvides clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge
