In this role you will work directly with a team of software engineers and coordinate resources to meet the needs of the Sleep & Respiratory Care business who are responsible for the research, development and production support of products for CPAP sleep apnea devices, invasive and non-invasive lung ventilation and other aspects of respiratory care in hospital, skilled care facilities and the home environment.

Please note: Due to the consolidation of our sites, this role will start at the Bakery Square office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and will move to another site in the greater Pittsburgh area by the end of the year. This change will bring our teams in western Pennsylvania closer together to remain competitive and committed to our customers, clinicians, and patients and create value with sustainable impact.

Your role:

  • Be a member of the Development Management Team and determine, in consultation with the Management Team, the department's objectives, policies, processes and budgets both short and long term, making sure that the organization can meet the objectives and ensure that the roles and responsibilities are put in place.
  • Manage capabilities of the department; develop and maintain a long term view on the required competences and knowledge to introduce new technology. Ensure that there are adequate resources and tools at the proper time, be responsible for the technology and architecture in the department, and be responsible for maintaining and improving the department's knowledge and expertise.
  • Ensure appropriate personnel management practices regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, education and training, and management development policy.
  • Ensure an engaged, innovative, and inspiring working environment in the department by motivating, challenging, and coaching the department's employees towards growth, manage and optimize the innovative climate, and stimulate entrepreneurship and drive engagement.
  • Co-responsible for achieving operational plans, guide Project Managers/Leaders and ensure the optimal allocation of personnel to the projects and effective project management; ensure excellent project execution by constantly optimizing project management practices in the department to exceed customer expectations.
  • Cooperate with relevant parties outside of the department. Work across the borders of your own department to formulate strategies or project proposals across department borders, cooperating with other department heads, programs and the business. Establish a network with relevant players; scientific relations outside of the department and with the business - on all topics, and actively use this network to obtain input on technological developments, identifying trends and opportunities.
  • Responsible for recruiting and mentoring new associates.
  • Be challenged to develop experienced and future Software leaders in a growing organization.

You're the right fit if:

  • You've acquired 10+ years of software engineering experience, experience with embedded software development and an in-depth understanding of low level interfacing, system testing, and debugging preferred.
  • You also have experience in testing and troubleshooting low-level code using logic analyzer, or microprocessor debug probe. Proficiency in C/C++/C# and assembly language required.
  • Your skills include having a strong working knowledge of structured design, embedded real-time systems, and hardware/software interface required. Experience with Embedded Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and software engineering lifecycle experience is required. Agile software development experience is a plus.
  • You have a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineer or Electrical Engineering required. MBA or MS in Engineering Management is a plus.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.
  • You have strong communication skills and presentation skills, you possess a positive attitude, and you are a strong motivator focused on taking the group to the next level.
