The University of Southern California (USC) Leonard Davis School of Gerontology is seeking a Research Lab Technician II to join our team. This role is responsible for providing support for the execution of protocols and approaches to study the role of exercise as an intervention against age-associated cognitive decline and age-associated neurodegenerative disease.

Reporting directly to Dr. Constanza Cortes, Assistant Professor, the Research Lab Technician II will work in collaboration with scientific cores, collaborating labs, and animal resource programs. The ideal candidate will have a background in neuroscience or aging or a related field. Experience with animal modeling, particularly rodents, is a plus. The candidates should be hard-working, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, as well as strong attention to detail.

Roles and responsibilities to include:

Molecular biology: protein extraction and western blotting, RNA extraction and qRT-PCRCell culture: proficiency with tissue culture (primary or immortalized cell lines), including cell passaging, storage and experimentationStaining, microscopy and imaging experience is a plusCollects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes dataAssists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies: inventory management, ordering, and supply oversights.Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree. Combined experience/education as a substitute for minimum education.Previous animal handling experience is a plusProficient with MS Office, Adobe SuiteExperience working in the higher education field is ideal. This is a non-exempt position with work expected to be standard in-person hours of operations, with the potential for weekend work during emergencies only. No travel will be required. This position is funded by a research contract/grant and may be funded by a subsequent contract/grant. Accordingly, your position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent contract/grant to continue employment.

The hourly rate range for this position is $24.23-$26.54.
