POSITION GOALS:
To provide psychiatric nursing and medication management to clients in Residential Facilities and Non-residential Services. To educate, motivate, and counsel psychiatrically disabled adults in areas of self-care and community living. Provide staff training on medical-related issues as necessary.
SUPERVISORY
Responsibilities:
Provides clinical supervision and oversight of residential/services staff (unlicensed personnel).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the programs and services, to ensure that the programs receive and coordinate referrals of new clients, that service plans are based on client needs and interests, that clients are assisted in the attainment of mutual treatment and program goals, that quality improvement standards are being adhered to, and that clients are aided as needed with entitlements.
- Oversee management of program and client service operations, to ensure compliance objectives are attained, quality of service is achieved, outcomes are measurable and successful, safety and security is assured, and professionalism is achieved.
- Evaluate all incoming clients for physical and medication needs within 72 hours of being admitted.
- Meet face-to-face with consumers during scheduled hours, as needed.
- Manage the medication system and administer and document medication treatment.
- Provide liaison with consulting psychiatrist and/or other M.D.'s to correct any inappropriate medication situation or to inform of any medical concern.
- Conduct health assessments within the scope of practice.
- Provide training to other team members to help them monitor psychiatric symptoms and medication side effects.
- Facilitate client treatment plan meetings, ensuring individual treatment plan (ITP) and clinical evaluations are complete and up-to-date on a weekly basis and staff is informed regarding medications.
- Monitor and administer client medication (including injections) when required and be available on-call 24/7 for medical consultation and on-site emergency response.
- Serve as a caring and understanding role model whose example provides clients with a clear idea of behavior patterns they might emulate.
- Serve as a project liaison representing the Agency in a professional manner within the community, including residential placements, community mental health centers, vocational rehabilitation agencies, educational resources, day activity programs, etc.
- Report any incident immediately.
- Maintain all files, client records, and related program reporting forms. Complete and submit all required reports in a timely fashion.
- Develop and/or implement medication management and other health/safety related training modules (e.g., bio hazards, HIV, Hepatitis, TB, First Aid, etc.) policies and procedures. Provide and document training as required.
- Documents in clinical records (as applicable) according to MHK policy, including timely entry, and accurate portrayal of services.
- Confirms (as applicable) accurate insurance/payer coverage for each person served by checking the applicable website weekly, or as required by contract.
- Submits billing contact sheets (as applicable) to local accounting/bookkeeping personnel daily.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Management/Supervisory staff.

Expectations:
To assist people with psychiatric disabilities ranging from transitional issues such as anxiety and depression, to life-long, serious mental illness; e.g., schizophrenia; bi-polar disorders; and behaviors that may involve psychosis (i.e., hearing voices; visual hallucinations; delusions, etc.).
To facilitate stressful situations and emotional conflicts with persons served and other stakeholders as part of your job.
Education &
Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
Current Hawaii State Registered Nurse license with 2 years of experience in a related human/social services field. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing is required for Interim Housing projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's of Science degree in Nursing and 2 years of clinical experience in a related human/social services field.
Professional/Personal Skills:
Ability to serve as a positive mentor for adults with mental illness needing assistance with daily living skills and community acceptance. Desirable characteristics include tolerance in crisis or stressful situations; able to work as part of a team, good interpersonal and problem-solving skills; flexibility; good oral written and communication skills.
