IT Specialist positions located in DOL, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Office of Technology and Survey Processing (OTSP) provide IT support to all aspects of BLS data development initiatives. BLS measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making.

The BLS headquarters is currently located in Washington, D.C. but is in the process of relocating within the National Capital Area to the Suitland Federal Center in Suitland, Maryland. If selected for this position, your assigned duty station will be Washington, D.C with the option to telework from an approved telework site within the locality pay area of Washington, D.C./Baltimore/Arlington while future headquarters is being built. Upon completion of the new headquarters offices in Suitland, MD, you will be required to report onsite to the Suitland Federal Center for some portion of each pay period after receiving notification to do so.

This position serves as an IT Web Developer / Software Engineer - Angular and Java. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Developing applications using Angular, Java, Structured Query Language (SQL), and PL/SQL.
• Developing applications through all phases of the Agile Software Development Life Cycle. Managing the performance, maintenance, and disposition of existing systems.
• Leading teams to complete specific projects. Creating project plans and accompanying schedules that include tasks, duration, dependencies, constraints, milestones, signoffs, go/no-go decision points, and contingency strategies. Monitoring and reporting on the progress for such initiatives as well as consulting with appropriate staff to facilitate project planning.
• Serving as a technical expert for IT software development which includes providing expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical IT issues. Applying new technological developments to problems and makes recommendations. Providing advice on and devising solutions to a wide range of IT issues.
