Staff Software Engineer

About the Role
The transportation industry has no shortage of complex problems requiring creative solutions to scale efficiently. In this role, you will collaborate with a small team to understand user and market needs, participate in architectural design, and build distributed systems to facilitate our web-based platform.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with stakeholders and engineers to navigate business objectives
- Collaborate across teams to ensure best practices are used by all engineers within the organization
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- Engage in the full development life cycle including architectural design and testing
- Be a force-multiplier on the velocity and quality of your team
- Enjoy leveling up engineers by being a mentor and teacher of the art
- Stay current on software engineering trends & tools
- Maintain a high bar for quality and performance of your product with vigorous attention to detail and automated testing
- Have strong understanding of event driven architecture, Kafka is a bonus
- Continuously improve how we design, build, and ship software as a highly functional team
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in software development, including designing, building, deploying, and maintaining web applications
- Expertise with JavaScript with a willingness and ability to learn new languages; Typescript preferred
- Experience with for full stack development
- Experience with one or more of the follow languages Java, C#, Go,
- Experience working with at least one of the following: React or similar frameworks, continuous integration / continuous delivery tools, REST API development, application observability and/or messaging / stream architecture
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals: unit testing, code reviews, Agile and DevOps
- Ability to understand complicated problems and craft into simple solutions that can be maintained by the rest of the team
- Ability to train and mentor junior engineers
- Experience with SQL and RDBMS
- Experience NoSQL technologies a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Compassion and empathy
- Experience in logistics industry a plus

Mastery Logistics Systems is building the world's first lovable Transportation Management System, or TMS.
Our customers - large transportation companies and shippers who need those companies - have struggled with systems that are outdated or inadequate. As shippers or transportation service providers, our customers have in the past been forced to use multiple systems to manage dedicated fleet operations, outsourced or insourced trans management, one way trucking, truckload brokerage, LTL, and Intermodal, or to sub-optimize one or more of those functions by attempting to fit it into a TMS that is adequate at another function.
