Job brief:

As a Technical Product Manager (TPM) at the Weather Company, you will be responsible for hundreds of unique products. You will be a part of the SUN Platform and Data Services team, which owns a flexible and highly scalable platform to serve weather, insights, location, and health/wellness data. The ideal candidate will provide strategic and tactical guidance to teams and management. As the TPM, you will work with our development teams as well as other stakeholders and business owners to evaluate, plan, and deliver software development projects on time and within scope. Beyond solid product delivery and technical skills, you have proven experience in problem-solving, managing multiple projects simultaneously, SDLC, agile management, and delivery of complex, large-scale software projects. You can think critically, lead through intellect, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
The impact you'll make:
  • Own the API services that make up the Weather Data business that serves consumer, enterprise, media, and aviation customers.
  • Interface directly with internal and external customers to ensure key business goals are achieved.
  • Identify the problem and solution that a product is intended for. Define the requirements, features, and functionality by working with internal development teams, customers, and stakeholders, and driving consensus and accountability across all functions towards launching, supporting, and maintaining the product.
  • Determine and evangelize a vision and roadmap for services that align with business objectives
  • Collaborate with engineers to design and develop the API architecture, ensuring scalability and performance.
  • Develop clear and comprehensive API documentation for developers.
  • Lead sprint planning and refinement to organize and plan the detailed work to complete a project.
  • Monitor API usage and performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.
  • Manage Projects ranging in scope from single sprint tasks to complex efforts involving multiple teams lasting a quarter or more.
  • Identify and escalate (when needed) risks and issues. Work with the development teams to develop mitigation strategies and communicate the impacts to leadership.
  • Enable an efficient development process for development teams.
What you've accomplished:
  • 5
    years experience in a technology environment, including 2-3 years of experience in product management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technology-driven projects with hands-on experience, knowledge, and understanding of underlying architecture, components, dependencies, etc.
  • Experience leading projects using Agile/Scrum methodology.
  • Experience working in a Continuous Delivery model.
  • Experience in Cloud-based technology projects, preferably AWS.
  • Experience in JIRA and other Atlassian tools for issue tracking.
  • Ability to manage time and deliverables amongst several ongoing projects.
  • Ability to self-manage and take initiative.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and hold teams accountable to execute a plan.
  • Ability to write clear and thorough requirements.
Nice-to-haves:
  • Programming experience and technology degree (BS or MS in CS or computer engineering) or background is a plus.
  • Experience with CDN (Content Delivery Networks) and serving data at scale.
  • Experience working with weather data providers or meteorological organizations.
  • Strong understanding of security by design concepts.
